Questions and Answers
What is tooth whitening?
Tooth whitening is a process by which the discolourations of the enamel and dentin are lightened.
What causes my teeth to discolour?
There are many causes of tooth discolouration. Some of the most common include the consumption of highly coloured foods (beetroot, sweets) and drinks (coffee, tea, red wine). Antibiotics at a young age, aging, smoking and trauma can also result in discolourations.
How long will it last?
Indefinitely as you simply touch up once or twice a year for one or two days or nights. Without a touch up, your teeth will start to restain by the same things that caused them to discolour in the first place.
Is the treatment safe?
The active ingredient (either carbamide or hydrogen peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin and the stains are "dissolved".
What are the side effects?
For the majority of the patients there are none. However, some will experience temporary sensitivity (dull or sharp, sensitivity to hot or cold). This will subside after several hours of ceasing the treatment. If sensitivity is present, wear times can be shortened or made less frequent or teeth can be brushed with a desensitizing toothpaste. Abstain from carbonated drinks and citrus foods and beverages to avoid sensitivity.
How long does it take?
With Pola Office, results are obtained within just 30 minutes ensuring the patient instant gratification. Pola Day and Pola Night take about 10 - 14 days with the patient performing the treatment in the comfort of their own home. With either option, the patient achieves a whiter, younger looking smile.
What if i have restorations in my teeth, will these change colour?
